There is a lot to learn about water, and it is easy to feel unsure where to start. This planner builds a simple, ordered reading and tool list based on the topics that interest you most and the time you have available each week.

Everything in the plan links to a real guide or interactive tool on this site — no external subscriptions, no paywalls. Work through it at your own pace.

How to use this tool

Select any combination of four topic areas, set a weekly time commitment, and the planner generates a numbered study list with an estimated duration:

  • Hydration — how much water you need, what affects that, myths and the role of electrolytes.
  • Safety — home water quality, testing, what is in treated tap water, and how to stay informed.
  • Water types — tap, bottled, mineral, filtered, distilled, alkaline and reverse osmosis compared.
  • Environment — water footprint, conservation habits, plastic waste and the broader water picture.

Items are listed guides first within each topic block, with relevant interactive tools woven in to reinforce learning in a hands-on way.

A little background

The planner is intentionally simple: it does not track completion or quiz you — its job is to give structure to self-directed learning. The order within each topic moves roughly from foundational concepts to more specific or applied material.

If you are completely new to the subject, the beginner water science guide and the Beginner Water Course are good starting points before or alongside the planner. For myth-busting specifically, the Water Myth Quiz is a useful way to test what you already know.

Tool FAQ

Yes. The planner lists items within each topic in a logical order, but the topics themselves are independent. If you are most interested in water types, start there; safety and hydration do not need to come first.

Most guides on this site are a 5–10 minute read. Interactive tools take a few minutes to explore. A "1 hour per week" pace comfortably fits two or three items per week with time to revisit anything that prompts further questions.

Yes. All guides are written in plain language without assumed prior knowledge. If you want an even more structured starting point, the Beginner Water Course walks you from basics to myth-spotting in a single self-paced path.

Yes — selecting more topics adds more items to the list and extends the estimated duration. The pace (items per week) stays the same based on your hours selection, so the total time scales with the number of topics chosen.
