This calculator lets you enter your typical daily servings and see an estimated total. It is a broad educational picture, not a precise measurement, and figures reflect approximate global averages rather than any specific product or farm.
How to use this tool
Enter how many servings of each food you consume on a typical day. The tool multiplies each quantity by its approximate virtual-water value and sums the results:
- Beef (100 g) — roughly 1,540 L, reflecting the water needed for livestock feed and rearing.
- Chicken (100 g) — roughly 430 L, considerably lower than red meat.
- Cheese (50 g) — roughly 250 L, driven by the dairy production chain.
- Rice (100 g) — roughly 250 L, largely due to paddy-field irrigation.
- Egg (each) — roughly 200 L.
- Coffee (cup) — roughly 130 L, mainly from growing the beans.
- Bread (slice) — roughly 40 L.
- Apple (each) — roughly 70 L.
